Since this Private Country Club opened in 1975 it has been widely known that it is a serious test of any players ability. This is a course designed by Robert Muir Graves who has designed many great tracks like Northstar at Tahoe, Quail Lodge Resort and Country Club in Carmel, La Purisima in Lompoc which is used as a PGA Q-School stop (it’s a beast) and also 7 Oaks CC here in Bakersfield.

    Recently in Bakersfield the economy has dealt a blow to the Golf industry just like most all of the country. I had heard that Country Clubs all over were down on membership numbers. There were also rumours about Rio Bravos demise. I decided it was time to get out there and see for myself what was going on. My mentor in the business is PGA Professional Ken Klose who just happens to be the Head Pro at Rio Bravo. I called Ken and was happy to find him upbeat and excited about the current status of the club. Ken also let me know that a new Teaching Pro had just been added to the staff. This is not just any new Pro but a old friend, and rival from long ago. Nick Klassen who once dominated the High School Golf scene here is back. Nick is a great person, player and Golf Instructor and will be a great addition to Rio Bravo CC. I also learned that the club has some key employees back where they should be. Some definite signs of these returns can be found not only on the course but in the dining room.
